What is grief?

Grief is a natural response to the profound sense of loss we experience when someone or something we cherish is no longer present in our lives. It’s a deeply personal experience triggered by various life events, like the death of a loved one, the end of a significant relationship, or the loss of a job, health, or identity. Grief has no timetable, and it doesn’t take a linear path. All of us cope in our own way and at our own pace.

It can appear in many ways, physically and emotionally. It may bring on:

  • Fatigue and sleep disturbances.
  • Changes in appetite.
  • Heightened sensitivity.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • A loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed.
  • A range of intense emotions like sadness, anger, confusion, guilt, and even relief.

Healing from grief doesn’t mean forgetting the past. It means finding a way to honour and integrate the memories, love, and significance of what’s been lost into your life moving forward.

What can life after therapy look like?

Life has a funny way of throwing us curveballs, but therapy arms you with the resilience to handle them. Equipping you with the tools to navigate life’s ups and downs and allow moments of genuine happiness to emerge. So you can laugh a little louder, smile a little wider, and savour the good moments again.

My approach is designed to help you:

  • Navigate bumps in the road with confidence and adaptability.

  • Honour the memory of what you’ve lost.

  • Embrace new opportunities that align with your values and passions.

  • Acknowledge your pain while allowing space for growth and renewal.

Therapies we'll draw from

The gold-standard treatment for trauma, EMDR targets pivotal past experiences and uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help you process them. It’s interactive, practical, and respects your privacy by prompting the healing process physically. Basically, it rewires your brain so you can make sense of your experiences in a more positive way.

Psychodynamic
Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy explores how your past experiences shape your current thoughts and behaviours. Together, we’ll focus on identifying unconscious patterns and dynamics to help you understand yourself deeply and make lasting changes in your life.

Schema
Therapy

A deep dive into the impact of unmet childhood needs and how they shape your thinking, behaviour, and worldview. Through Schema therapy, you can identify and replace these patterns to build a strong sense of self and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

ACT
Therapy

A blend of mindfulness and behavioural therapy that teaches you to accept your thoughts and feelings without trying to control or push them away. It’s like giving yourself a permission slip to be human. Designed to help you become more present, live according to your values, and take action even when things get tough.

Compassion
Focused Therapy

With a focus on fostering empathy, this therapy is designed to help you overcome self-criticism, promote wellbeing, and improve your relationships. With techniques like visualisation and mindfulness, it helps you develop a compassionate mindset towards yourself and others.

Ego
State Therapy

Recognising that we’re complex beings, Ego State Therapy offers a roadmap for understanding different aspects of our personality (ego states). We all have unique parts that shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions. By getting to know them, we can tackle internal conflicts and unresolved issues that may be causing difficulties in our life.

Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy

DBT blends cognitive behavioural therapy with ideas from dialectical philosophy. It’s designed to help you learn new skills to improve your mindfulness, communication, relationships, and emotional control. With a comprehensive treatment approach that provides ongoing support and guidance to integrate these skills into your life.
