Answers to your questions

What to expect at Innerverse

You’re unique, and so is your healing process so it really comes down to finding an approach that resonates with you. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Reflect on your specific needs and goals to narrow down potential therapies you’d like to try.
  • Research approaches to see which aligns with your preferences and values. Read about their techniques and outcomes.
  • Check if the therapist has relevant experience in your areas of concern.
  • Reach out for more information from the therapist.
  • Use your initial session to ask questions, discuss your expectations, and get a sense of their personality and approach.

Ultimately, your therapist should make you feel empowered and supported every step of the way. It’s okay to try out a few before making your decision. If you feel a therapist isn’t the right fit, don’t be discouraged—there are plenty of options out there. The right therapist will listen and provide support tailored to your needs.

Therapy is a personal journey, and the number of EMDR sessions can differ for each person, depending on factors like the complexity of your trauma, how long it’s been affecting you, and your individual response to therapy.

Some people find relief in 6-12 sessions, while others need more. It’s all about feeling our way through it together. I’ll work collaboratively with you to determine the best course of action to help you achieve your goals.

There are a couple of options available to support you with payment:

  • Chat with your GP to set up a mental health care treatment plan. This lets you claim up to 10 individual sessions with a mental health professional each year, so you can recover some of the cost. Find more info on how mental health care plans work in the section below.
  • If you have private health insurance, there might be some money you can get back. It’s worth checking with your insurer to see if they offer any coverage for therapy.

As Innerverse is not an emergency service, I’m not equipped to provide emergency support around-the-clock. So I won’t be contactable after hours. In case of an emergency, please reach out to the emergency services who are equipped to provide immediate support for you:

  • Police, Fire, or Ambulance: 000
  • Lifeline: 13 11 14
  • Blue Knot Helpline: 1300 657 380
  • Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800
  • Domestic Violence Hotline (QLD): 1800 811 811

If you have any non-urgent questions or concerns, I’m more than happy to assist you during my regular opening hours.

Therapy works best when it’s regular and consistent, so we typically start with weekly or fortnightly sessions. But how you choose to organise your sessions depends on your unique situation and needs. Some people visit for just a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer-term therapeutic journey.

Throughout the process, we’ll regularly check in and assess your needs to find a rhythm that suits you. Remember, you have full control over your therapeutic journey. You can decide to end our sessions, take a break, or change the frequency of your visits at any time.

Individual 1-1 therapy sessions (50 minutes) are $250. For initial consultations, a 50% deposit is held at the time of booking, with the remainder paid at your appointment.

The EMDR intensive program (which includes 4 x 2 hour sessions over a 2 week period) is $2600 in total. You can pay up front or stagger your payments for the intensive program if needed.

I know that sometimes life gets in the way. Just give me a heads-up at least 48 hours before your appointment, and you can cancel without any fees. If you don’t provide enough notice (without a valid reason), you might incur a 50% cancellation fee. And if you don’t show up or let me know at all, it could be a 100% cancellation fee. I’m here to help, so just keep me in the loop.

Your personal details and the information you share in your therapy sessions are confidential and will not be shared with anyone without your written consent.

In instances where your safety or the safety of others becomes a concern, I’m required by law to take steps to ensure Duty of Care is covered. I take a collaborative approach so, wherever possible, I’ll discuss these steps with you before taking action.

If you’ve been referred on a mental health care plan, I’m also required to send reports to your referring GP. You can find out more about how this works in the next section.

Your trust and safety are my top priority so I will always handle your information with the utmost care and respect.

Understanding mental health care plans

  1. Make an appointment with your GP to discuss your needs. They may ask you some personal questions about what you’ve been experiencing and/or ask you to complete a questionnaire about your symptoms.
  2. After this, they’ll provide a referral for you to begin your mental health care plan.
  3. Remember to bring or email this referral for your first appointment.

On a mental health care treatment plan at Innerverse, you’re eligible to claim financial support for:

  • 1-1 Therapy sessions – $92.20 per 50-minute session.
  • EMDR intensives – $92.20 per 2-hour session.

Your doctor will give you a referral for up to 6 sessions to begin with. If you need more, they can refer you for up to 10 sessions per year. Remember to bring or email your referral for your first appointment. When you pay, I’ll process your claim to Medicare for you.

If you’re on a mental health care plan, I’m required to send letters to your GP after your first, sixth, and tenth sessions, and at the end of treatment. These letters may include:

  • Information about the referral and my opinion on your current symptoms.
  • Some letters may include psychometric tests (questionnaires for symptoms).
  • Where appropriate I may include relevant background info and a brief outline of the therapy we’ve chosen to use.
  • Updates on your progress and recommendations for further support as needed.

Your confidentiality is always maintained between me and your GP. We won’t share this information with anyone else without your written consent.
