What is depression?

Feeling a bit down from time to time is totally normal—we’re all human. But when that feeling sticks around for two weeks or more, it could be a sign of something more serious. When depression hits, it can really throw you off. The things you used to enjoy suddenly lose their appeal because your mood is constantly low. Your motivation takes a nosedive, and even simple tasks feel like a struggle. It’s more just feeling blue. You might find yourself feeling:

  • Sad, guilty, empty, or hopeless.
  • Easily irritated or troubled by self-critical thoughts.
  • Constantly tired, even after a full night’s sleep.
  • Disinterested in activities you once enjoyed.
  • Distant from social activities or relationships.
But remember, you’re not alone in this. If you’re experiencing these symptoms, there is support available for you.

What can life after therapy look like?

Depression therapy equips you with tools and insights to navigate depressive thoughts. By learning coping strategies, understanding causes, and embracing self-compassion, you can alleviate symptoms, heal, and move forward.

My approach is designed to help you:

  • Identify unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that keep you stuck.
  • Develop self-compassion and understanding.
  • Tackle avoidance and get back to meaningful activities that bring you joy.
  • Explore your past experiences, making connections and uncovering core beliefs and patterns that might be contributing to your depression.
  • Develop a resilient mindset and valuable coping skills to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.

So, how do we treat depression?

The gold-standard treatment for trauma, EMDR targets pivotal past experiences and uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help you process them. It’s interactive, practical, and respects your privacy by prompting the healing process physically. Basically, it rewires your brain so you can make sense of your experiences in a more positive way.

Psychodynamic
Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy explores how your past experiences shape your current thoughts and behaviours. Together, we’ll focus on identifying unconscious patterns and dynamics to help you understand yourself deeply and make lasting changes in your life.

Schema
Therapy

A deep dive into the impact of unmet childhood needs and how they shape your thinking, behaviour, and worldview. Through Schema therapy, you can identify and replace these patterns to build a strong sense of self and develop healthy coping mechanisms.

ACT
Therapy

A blend of mindfulness and behavioural therapy that teaches you to accept your thoughts and feelings without trying to control or push them away. It’s like giving yourself a permission slip to be human. Designed to help you become more present, live according to your values, and take action even when things get tough.

Compassion
Focused Therapy

With a focus on fostering empathy, this therapy is designed to help you overcome self-criticism, promote wellbeing, and improve your relationships. With techniques like visualisation and mindfulness, it helps you develop a compassionate mindset towards yourself and others.

Ego
State Therapy

Recognising that we’re complex beings, Ego State Therapy offers a roadmap for understanding different aspects of our personality (ego states). We all have unique parts that shape our thoughts, emotions, and actions. By getting to know them, we can tackle internal conflicts and unresolved issues that may be causing difficulties in our life.

Dialectical
Behaviour Therapy

DBT blends cognitive behavioural therapy with ideas from dialectical philosophy. It’s designed to help you learn new skills to improve your mindfulness, communication, relationships, and emotional control. With a comprehensive treatment approach that provides ongoing support and guidance to integrate these skills into your life.
