What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a totally normal response that we all experience from time to time. But when it starts running the show, it can have a serious impact on your life. When you’re anxious, it can feel like your emotions are dialled all the way up. Your body can feel like it’s got a persistent case of the jitters – as if you’ve had one too many espressos. You might find yourself experiencing:

  • Constant feelings of fear, worry, and doubt.
  • Racing thoughts that won’t quiet down.
  • An elevated heart-rate and shakiness in your body.
  • A lingering feeling of dread.
  • Nervous energy that makes you fidget, pace, or tap your foot.
  • Difficulty getting things done.
  • “What if” scenarios playing on repeat.

You don’t have to let anxiety call the shots. With the right support, you can manage your symptoms and find relief.

What can life after therapy look like?

The right anxiety therapy can equip you with practical tools and insights to navigate anxious thoughts with confidence and resilience. By learning effective coping strategies, understanding your brain’s response to certain situations, and embracing self-compassion you can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and experience a newfound sense of empowerment.

My approach is designed to help you:

  • Understand your brain and anxiety as a primitive instinctive response.
  • Learn skills to reduce “what if” thoughts and other unhelpful thinking patterns.
  • Learn effective breathing strategies to turn the dial down on anxiety.
  • Develop self-compassion while challenging your anxious thoughts.
  • Tackle avoidance and engage in meaningful activities you’ve longed to do.

So, how do we treat anxiety?

The gold-standard treatment for trauma, EMDR targets pivotal past experiences and uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping) to help you process them. It’s interactive, practical, and respects your privacy by prompting the healing process physically. Basically, it rewires your brain so you can make sense of your experiences in a more positive way.
